Qualcomm to buy NXP for $39 billion

Listen to article

It’s been confirmed that Qualcomm has agreed to buy NXP Seminconductors in a deal worth $39 billion.

Qualcomm is the largest chip manufacturers for smartphones while NXP is also a huge player in the automotive industry. Last year, NXP bought out Freescale Semiconductors (a rival company that started out as a division of Motorola until it divested in 2003) for $11.8 billion.

With NXP in the fold, Qualcomm is expecting to enter the automotive industry as it diversifies its business.
