The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the improvement and widening of Radial Road 10 or R-10 is underway and is expected to open soon.

The R-10 is expected to be an alternate route located at the old Smokey Mountain area that will help ease traffic in major highways like EDSA and C5.
“Filipinos will soon have access to an improved and widened Radial Road 10 or R-10 which they may opt to use as an alternate route to EDSA via Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard in traveling from north to south and vice versa,” said DPWH Secretary Mark Villa.
He also added that they have completed clearing out the illegal structures along the road and will resume the widening of the remaining section “particularly at Pacheco, Tondo area.”
The entirety of R-10 stretches to 9.7 kilometers from Delpan Bridge, Tondo, Manila, to Malabon River at Bangkulasi Bridge, C-4 Road in Navotas City. It can be used as an alternate route from Quezon City to Manila and Pasay.
This rehabilitation, apart from decongesting traffic flow in EDSA and C-5, is also said to enhance economic efficiency and competitiveness of the export industry as it is able to provide freight movement that’s faster and more reliable.
Finally, the DPWH Chief said that they are “committed to opening R-10 January 2017.”
