Samsung Galaxy S11 reported to have 108MP camera, 5x optical zoom

The Samsung Galaxy S11 is yet to be officially announced but the device is being reported to have a 108MP camera and 5x optical zoom.

According to The Elec, the Samsung Galaxy S11 will be getting the 5x zoom camera modules when it launches in the first half of 2020. Samsung Electro-Mechanics, the sister company of Samsung Electronics, has begun mass production of the optical 5x zoom camera modules this year.

Other reports note that optical zooms are better because the image remains intact even when enlarged. however, this is difficult to adopt in smartphones because by design optical zooms would make the phones bulky. It’s touted that the s11’s camera module will be a periscope type, which makes it slimmer than traditional 5x zoom cameras.

Additionally, it’s rumored that the Samsung Galaxy S11 will have a quad rear camera setup: a 108MP wide-angle camera, along with 3D sensing ToF modules.
