Sony has recently clarified a new reporting feature on its Voice Chat on its upcoming PlayStation 5 console.
The new Voice Chat feature allows PS5 players to report verbal harassment, inappropriate behavior, and actions that violate Sony’s Community Code of Conduct while on PlayStation Network. Sony reiterates that the new feature will not actively monitor or listen to the player’s conversations. The feature is exclusively developed for reporting online abuse or harassment.
Previously, consumers thought that the new feature would record their voices actively and moderate conversations among private groups.
Those who will file a harassment report using the feature will be able to include up to a 40 second-long Voice Chat clip of their conversation. This should include 20 seconds of the main conversation with the other player and an additional 10 seconds before and after the conversation selection.
The company also said that the Voice Chat reporting feature would be available only to the first five minutes of a private Voice Chat recording to review it before submitting a report. Reports can be submitted directly to Sony’s Consumer Experience Team for validation through the PS5 console.
Sony also said that there wouldn’t be an option to opt-out of the Voice Chat recording feature to keep a safe environment on its platform.
