Uber lets riders verify profiles via Facebook

Uber Philippines is set to launch a new enhancement of its app that aims to provide more ways for rider verification, the company announced today.

Riders who do not have an electronic payment method available and still insist on paying cash with the TNVS will now be able to verify their identity via Facebook, Uber announced via an email press release. The ridesharing company touts that this new feature will ensure control and peace of mind, helping to keep all driver-partners safe before, during, and after every trip.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) lauds Uber’s initiative to launch this ahead of time. “The LTFRB is supportive of Uber’s initiative to launch Rider Identification. This is one of the outcomes of the Safety and Security Technical Working Group meetings conducted by the LTFRB together with the TNCs, TNVS leaders, PNP-HPG, MMDA, and Red Cross. This will hopefully provide an additional layer of security for our TNVS drivers who provide service to the riding public,” said LTFRB Board Member Aileen Lizada.

The new identity verification feature rolls out to Uber apps both on iOS and Android this January 16th.
