XChat app now available on iOS

X, formerly Twitter, has launched its new standalone XChat app on iOS.

The XChat app introduces end-to-end encrypted messaging. This secures messages, links, media and reactions before they leave a user’s device.

Each user gets a private and public key pair, protected by a PIN. Separate conversation keys handle message encryption between users.

XChat also brings several new features. Some of these include encrypted group chats, disappearing messages, voice notes and message unsending. There’s also support for ‘safety numbers’ which let users verify they are chatting with the correct person.

XChat is now available on iOS with an Android release expected soon.
