YouTube Launches AI Tool to Detect Deepfakes of Popular Creators

Listen to article

YouTube has introduced a new AI-powered tool that helps creators spot and remove deepfake videos using their faces or likeness without permission. The feature, now available to creators under YouTube’s Partner Program, aims to protect users from unauthorized AI-generated content.

Through this new system, creators can access a “Content Detection” tab in YouTube Studio to review flagged videos that might feature their likeness. If a video appears fake or altered, they can request YouTube to take it down. Before using the feature, creators must verify their identity to ensure that only legitimate claims are made.

The feature is being rolled out gradually, starting with select creators who were notified via email. However, YouTube warned that the tool is still being developed, meaning it might sometimes show clips from a creator’s own channel instead of fake ones.

This likeness detection tool works similarly to YouTube’s existing Content ID system, which automatically finds and flags copyrighted content. It’s part of YouTube’s broader effort to manage AI-generated videos and prevent misuse.

Aside from this, YouTube now requires creators to label any upload that uses AI-altered or generated material. The company also set strict rules for AI-made music that imitates an artist’s voice, reinforcing its push to keep content on the platform safe and authentic.
