Listen to article

We’ve recently reported that Bandai-Namco may add a Filipina character Tekken 7 as suggested by the images leaked online. Through an announcement made earlier today, the Katsuhiro Harada has made it official that the popular fighting game will indeed have three new characters which include a Filipina kickboxer named Josie Rizal.

According to the game publisher, Josie was designed by Mari Shimazaki with additional insights from Mark “Markman” Julio of Mad Catz which is a Filipino by blood.

Mark was responsible for some of the aspects of Josie Rizal including her fighting technique (Eskrima) and her name which is a homage to her country’s national hero, Jose Rizal.

Along with Josie Rizal, the game publisher announced two more additions to the game’s roster, namely Jin Kazama and Devil Jin. The former will be unlocked at the of the month while Devil Jin will join the roster on 7th of April.

As of the time of writing, Harada and his team have not yet announced when Tekken players will be able to use the game’s first Filipina character. But we can probably expect her to join the gang in the near future.

Aside from the name, is there anything else “Filipina” about her? I don’t think so.

I think yung default costume ok lang pero dapat yung national costume kasama sa customization. And sana arnis nalang instead of kickboxing :/

Wow, this is really great. I really think her design really does make one think about the Philippines.
