HP Folio 13 Ultrabook out, priced at Php56k

HP’s own ultrabook, the HP Folio 13, has actually landed in local stores and selling for just under Php56,000 (although, strictly speaking, its 17mm frame does not qualify it as an ultrabook if you asked Intel).

The Folio 13 weighs about 3.3lbs making it one of the heaviest ultrabook in the market (where all other units are under 3lbs).

13.3″ LED display @ 1366×768 pixels
1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-2467M
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
128GB SSD
Intel HD Graphics 3000
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1
Gigabit LAN
HDMI port
USB 3.0 port
SD card reader
6-cell Li-Ion battery
Altec Lansing Dolby Advanced Audio
Windows 7 Home Premium

There’s no optical drive here though and no idea on how long that battery life is. And, at the suggested retail price of Php55,990, it’s already within the range of the Asus Zenbook UX31 and the Macbook Air 13.

I give it maybe 6 months before it pays the first of what eventually will be many visits to the service center.

HP laptops are getting good lately, I got their Fusion-powered Pavilion dm1 last year and it’s excellent.

The Folio 13 is basically a 13-inch version of that with a backlit keyboard and runs on an Intel Core i5 processor.
