LG Optimus Pad vs. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Listen to article

Of the many number of tablets that has been announced this week, the most likely units that will eventually arrive in the Philippines are the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (SGT P7100) and the LG Optimus Pad.

The Motorola Xoom looks sweet but I doubt it will be officially released in the Philippines while HTC Flyer doesn’t really have enough genetic make-up to really compete with the other tablets.

LG Optimus Pad
Dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 1.0GHz processor
8.9-inch display, multi-touch @ 1280×768 pixels
32GB internal storage
Two 5MP camera
3G/HSDPA
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
GPS
Bluetooth
HDMI port
Android 3.0 Honeycomb

The dual 5-megapixel camera supports 3D Video recording and 720p HD video recording as well as 1080p video playback.

Samsung Galaxy Tab P7100
1 Ghz Dual Core Tegra 2 CPU
10.1 inch 1280×800 WXGA screen
16GB/32Gb internal storage
8 megapixel camera
record FullHD 1080p video
2 megapixel front-facing camera
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth
3G/HSDPA
6850 mAh battery
Android 3.0 Honeycomb

Samsung’s first 7-inch Galaxy Tab was already a hit so a more powerful 10-incher would certainly close the gap between their own Android tablet and Apple’s iPad.

However, considering the first Galaxy Tab was selling for a very expensive Php35k price-point, it’s a little hard to compete with the iPad which starts at just Php23k. Hopefully, Samsung will also offer a cheaper WiFi-only version of their tablet at under Php25k.

Based on previous pricing schemes, we’d expect the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to sell around Php35k or a little bit higher. As for the LG Optimus Pad, my guesstimate is somewhere between Php30 – Php35k.

Guyz! Actually.. ang 2.4 Android ay Gingerbread pa rin.. Pls. don’t compare this with HTC Flyer dahil 3.0 Honeycomb na to.. while ang flyer ay 2.4 Gingerbread lang..and! the 2.5 is actually Ice Cream Sandwich..

Ang pangit lang kasi sa Windows 7 would be the “closed yet loose” build.

Sa Android I can easily pinpoint the actual jar and apk files that does what, kaya easy ang customization. Sa Windows phone, mapapasabi ka ng “where the hell did this .dll come from?!” sa sobrang kalat.

I’ve heard SAMSUNG will release another tablet on march 22 in florida .. it’s an 8.9″ tablet .. :)Ahmm . When will be the releasing date of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 here in the philippines ?

With the ipad at 28k, I very much doubt Samsung would price theirs higher. Although Android is getting loads and loads better than iOS, it will never warrant being more expensive than Apple, for crissakes.

First generation iPad is only around 23K and newer Honeycomb slate like the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Optimus Pad it would take awhile to hit the Philippine Market. I observed this during the first gen galaxy tab and write now galaxy tab is everywhere. We are really behind!

@androidify, apparently the use of Android has dumbed you completely off the chart. You could have sold your brain for a song because it’s barely been used. :p

Price is only one of the considerations in selecting a tablet. For me, if I can get it at cost, I’d get the Motorola XOOM. But since we’re talking about the Tab 2 and the Optimus Pad, I’ll go for LG’s offering.

Both manufacturers don’t come anywhere to Apple’s IQ for design, utility, and quality.

Youre one crazy piece of shit. Im just stating facts. Hindi naman lahat ng tao sa Pinas techy eh. Most of them hindi tinitignan ang OS. Price pa din talaga ang basis ng pag bili nila. Did I say masyadong mahal para sakin? I said masyadong mahal para sa Philippine market you dipshit. You think I cant afford 35k? Gusto mong mag side by side ng pera sa bank? Baka magulat ka. BTW Im using an android phone not an iphone. Objective lang talaga ako hindi blind homer like you.

You are definitely sick.. Get some help.. Seriously..

Between these two, I might still roll with sammy.. I was very impressed with the galaxy s so instead of buying the next gen, I will try its larger sibling.

@Cebu Travel
Take a look at the Lumix LX3 (since I think you’re referring to the LX5 as over your budget).

@Yuga, I’m curious about your statement on the HTC flyer not having enough genetic makeup on it… What do you mean by that?

Can anyone give me advice what brand and model of digicam to buy? I opt for Panasonic Lumix but it’s way beyond my budget. my budget is just 15,000.

I’m going to use this cam for my travel blog.

The price is a little too high for the Philippine market. I think the Ipad will still rule the tablet wars here in the Phils.

i have a netbook. i need microsoft office most of the time. there exist the limitation of android. i don’t need an office editor.
windows 7 on tablet has a different limitation- shorter battery life.
i can wait for the next best tablet that can meet my needs and understands wider varieties of consumers as well.
hope there were fewer fashion victims. i’ve got less money to burn…

They look promising but overpriced IMHO. As for me, I’d rather wait for the Fusion laptops of AMD. I heard Lenovo and HP have their versions already. Are they available here now? Magkano kaya pag lumabas?
