Ayala Infra could take over independent operation of Globe towers

Listen to article

Ayala Energy and Infrastructure Group is one of the parties in talks with Globe Telecom which is planning to take over operations of the over 8,000 towers of the telco. This is part of the earlier official press release of Globe that it’s been in talks to 3rd parties to create an Independent Tower Company.

The Energy and Infrastructure Group (EIG) of Ayala Corporation is the conglomerate’s platform for its investments in energy and transportation infrastructure. EIG is comprised of AC Energy Holdings Inc. (AC Energy) and AC Infrastructure Holdings Corp. (AC Infra).

Ayala Infra is currently into operating tollways, rail and contactless payment systems while Ayala Energy is into renewable energy and retail electricity supply. While the negotiations are not yet final, this is the most likely scenario.

We reached out to Globe regarding this negotiation but they refused to comment on the matter.

they would be at a disadvantage if they (smart/pldt/china telecom/ptt, etc) use it and pay more. If they negotiate for parity then no disadvantage there. Most likely they would be given a discount since if they dont cooperate, it’s just like the original setup for Globe and they would be losing money.

BTW, Globe Telecom also belongs to the Ayala group of companies. Therefore, PLDT and 3rd Telco would then be at a disadvantage.
