Reports suggest that Apple is in preliminary discussions to acquire Perplexity AI, an emerging leader in AI-driven search, which could potentially become its largest acquisition to date. As reported by Bloomberg on June 20, discussions about the possible deal have taken place internally among senior Apple executives, including M&A head Adrian Perica and services chief Eddy Cue. However, Perplexity informed Reuters that it has “no knowledge” of any formal negotiations.

Perplexity is recognized for its real-time, conversational search engine, which serves as an alternative to conventional search models such as Google’s. As Apple embeds AI features into Safari, this acquisition could lessen its dependence on Google and enhance Siri with Perplexity’s chatbot-style capabilities.
The deal, rumored to be worth up to $14 billion, would eclipse Apple’s 2014 Beats acquisition. Meanwhile, rivals like Samsung are reportedly exploring Perplexity integration for the Galaxy S26, making this move a strategic play in the AI race.
