Huawei's Sabrina Meng, Rotating Chairwoman and CFO, ushered in the 5G revolution at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2023. In a world where 5G has gained four years of commercial traction, Meng proclaimed the coming of 5.5G as the next progressive stride. Meng also elaborated on the transformative capabilities of 5.5G, boasting features such as 10-gigabit downlink speeds, gigabit uplink speeds, and support for a staggering 100 billion connections. With its native AI, 5.5G is not only set to enhance human connectivity but also carve unique business opportunities in IoT, sensing, and advanced manufacturing sectors. Meng concluded her keynote on an optimistic note, encouraging the attendees to look forward to a future crafted by information technologies like 5G, 5.5G, AI, and cloud. Huawei makes some of the most interesting little gadgets around and when I visited their booth at CommunicAsia yesterday, they've got a dozens of Pocket WiFi and USB sticks for all sorts of cellular network on display. The one above is the Huawei WiFi E589 which supports LTE, 3G and 2G connections with speeds up to 50Mbps. This one is the Huawei E398 which is an LTE USB dongle, similar to the one being used by Smart LTE Evolution.
