Asus' 12-inch CULV and Acer's 11.6-inch Timeline notebooks are two of the most interesting models in the ULV category as they both offer portability and long battery life of netbooks but the processing power of laptops. On the top side, we have the Asus UL20A. The Asus UL20 is bit bigger (12.1") compared to the Acer Timeline 1810tz (11.6") so it won't be a surprise if the former is also a bit heavier by 0.22lbs (3.3lbs vs. 3.08lbs) Check out the table below that compares the basic specs of both: Acer leads with the battery capacity and presence of an HDMI port while Asus leads with a bigger storage capacity. As for the price, the 1810tz is not officially released so the unit used here is from HK and costs $750 (Php35,000) while the Asus UL20 has a suggested retail price of Php37,990. When a reader email in and asked about the Asus UL20, I said it's a nicely spec'ed CULV notebook but is very expensive at Php49,990. True enough, some stores still offer the UL20A at Php49,900 with an external DVD Writer. I think Asus has finally realized it won't sell its notebook at that high a price.
