Acer Timeline 1810tz vs. Asus UL20A

Listen to article

Asus’ 12-inch CULV and Acer’s 11.6-inch Timeline notebooks are two of the most interesting models in the ULV category as they both offer portability and long battery life of netbooks but the processing power of laptops. So we looked closer and compared them here.

On the top side, we have the Asus UL20A. On the bottom end, we have the Acer Timeline 1810tz.

The Asus UL20 is bit bigger (12.1″) compared to the Acer Timeline 1810tz (11.6″) so it won’t be a surprise if the former is also a bit heavier by 0.22lbs (3.3lbs vs. 3.08lbs)

Check out the table below that compares the basic specs of both:

Acer leads with the battery capacity and presence of an HDMI port while Asus leads with a bigger storage capacity.

However, our benchmarks revealed something more in terms of performance:

Windows Experience Index: Acer Timeline 1810tz

Windows Experience Index: Asus UL20A

We used PassMark (PerformanceTest v6.1) to look at the performance of the CPU, GPU and other core components:

Asus wins by a small margin with the CPU but had a significant difference in the GPU.

As for the price, the 1810tz is not officially released so the unit used here is from HK and costs $750 (Php35,000) while the Asus UL20 has a suggested retail price of Php37,990.

i saw an 1810 for sale at 27k in trinoma. but by looking at the shop’s warranty confidence made me think twice to purchase from them. might wait for acer to officially launch the 1810 locally before i make a purchase.

any news sir yuga?

At first glance of their specs, I thought Acer would already bag the prize – I was wrong. Buti na lang at merong benchmarking post si Sir Yuga! :-D

I’m more interested in a battery life benchmark.

Just comparing the battery capacity isn’t enough, since it still depends on the manufacturer’s power saving software if the laptop is frugal with power consumption :-)

way to go acer! the 1810 was one of the very first (if not the first) ULVs released but when asus followed suite, all they improved greatly was the hard disk? and no hdmi?

Paano na nga ulit yung pagiging pareho nilang Taiwanese company? Paki explain naman.
