According to the US Federal Communications Commission, the new definition (benchmark) for fixed broadband is now pegged at a minimum 100Mbps download and 25Mbps upload. This new benchmark may soon be adopted by our own NTC and telcos may no longer use the term broadband if their advertised subscription plan falls short of the 100Mbps mark (i.e. a basic 50Mbps plan may not be referred to as broadband). Do remember that the last time the NTC set a minimum broadband speed was for mobile in 2016 (Read: "NTC sets 256kbps as the minimum mobile broadband speed") and that was almost 8 years ago. In our comparison article last year, some ISP broadband plans at still set at 30Mbps and 75Mbps. Yes, you read it right -- Sky Broadband is offering up to 112Mbps residential cable internet. So here's the YouTube clip I took while testing it on SpeedTest: From our tests, it was able to register 86Mbps downstream and 4.3Mbps upstream. Sky Broadband reps tell me the theoretical speed is 112Mbps down and 5Mbps up.
