Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has clarified that certain charges appearing on electricity bills are government-mandated subsidies and do not go to the company, following the spread of misleading claims on social media. Meralco explained that these charges are collected and passed on to relevant agencies, in compliance with government regulations. The subsidies covered under these charges include the Senior Citizens discount, Lifeline Rate for 4Ps beneficiaries, Feed-in Tariff Allowance, and Green Energy Auction Allowance. Meralco also emphasized that these charges are not unique to its operations. Additionally, the founder of Samsung has been pardoned twice before by the president during his time similarly for bribery and other charges.
