Education Secretary Sonny Angara says artificial intelligence is already making a “marked improvement” in how the Department of Education handles data, nearly a year after launching the Education Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (ECAIR). Angara says these AI-powered systems are a big step toward smarter, more transparent education governance. Following the laptop mess, the Department of Education (DepEd) is faced again with another overpricing allegation concerning various camera equipment procured by the agency. Previously, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee recommended pressing graft and corruption charges against Christopher Lloyd Lao, a previous Department of Budget and Management - Procurement Service (PS-DBM) head, and some former and present DepEd top executives regarding the purchased laptops in 2021 that were overpriced by at least Php 979 million. (@natoreyes) February 5, 2023 He also said that nobody from the education department has contacted him yet to proceed with the investigation and questioned their urgency with the matter. Department of Education Spokesperson Michael Poa in a press conference said that DepEd will evaluate the claim and considers "quick fixes" to the procured laptops of Department of Budget and Management - Procurement Service (PS-DBM) worth Php 2.4B which could still be used as the next academic year resumes on August 22nd.
