Education Secretary Sonny Angara says artificial intelligence is already making a “marked improvement” in how the Department of Education handles data, nearly a year after launching the Education Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (ECAIR).
According to Angara, AI is now being used to improve data quality, decision-making, and daily operations across DepEd. While there’s still work to be done, he noted that today’s data is far more accurate compared to a year ago, helping the agency become more efficient and data-driven.
Through ECAIR, DepEd has rolled out projects like DUNONG for school performance tracking, SIGLA for learner health data, and TALINO for monitoring school infrastructure. These tools have sped up processes and reduced manual work. For example, teachers now spend less time encoding health data, while leadership selection has become faster and more organized, saving the government millions of pesos.
Angara says these AI-powered systems are a big step toward smarter, more transparent education governance.
