The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has updated their policy for passport renewal for married women. has revealed that an old contractor responsible for producing Philippine passports ran off with DFA data, affecting passport renewal procedures. Locsin made the revelation in his personal Twitter account while responding to an applicant who is having an issue renewing his passport as the DFA is requiring him to submit his birth certificate. When asked why the DFA is requiring the said document in some renewals, Locsin said that it's because the old contractor for passport "took away" DFA data. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is reportedly testing out a new system that will allow applicants to have online passport renewals. Then we can mail you the (renewed) passport already," The DFA is still in the process of finalizing the details of the said new system but they are aiming at a 2019 release. One catch though, only passports issued from August 2016 onwards are eligible for online passport renewal. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has announced that it is opening five special off-site locations on July 7 to provide an additional 177,500 passport appointment slots to the public in the NCR Plus area.
