#DOTr construction of bike lanes

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently held a meeting with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to discuss the construction of bicycle lanes along EDSA. Ensuring the safety of bikers, the protected bike lanes will be placed on the road with at least 1.5 meters of space. The agencies' decision to build bike lanes on EDSA will improve mobility as people switch to bicycles as a mode of transportation during the coronavirus pandemic. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) requests Google to include bike lane routes in the Philippines in the dashboard of its popular real-time navigation app Google Maps to assist cyclists. Bike lanes have pavement markings, physical separators, solar-powered road studs, thermoplastic paints, road signages, and bike racks. According to DOTr Assistant Secretary Steve Pastor, the bike lane project will help hasten economic recovery by championing road safety and the importance of road sharing with the establishment of bike facilities. It basically records user data like distance traveled, location of bike lanes, and even measures the amount of light present in a specific area.
