Renting VHS has been popular in the 80s and died down when DVDs have been available for rent in the early 00s. Since then, video rental stores began selling Blu-ray discs that support High Definition (HD). But with the emergence of video on demand and video streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and the likes, many video rental stores have started closing down, and it's rare to see one nowadays. Netflix has officially announced the end of their DVD rental services on Tuesday, April 18. It's an end of an era as Netflix has tweeted out that they will close their doors to DVD rental business. So we want to go out on a high, and will be shipping our final discs on September 29, 2023," as said by Netflix's co-chief executive officer Netflix will officially send their last DVDs on September 29.
