Coined in Neal Stephenson's 1992 sci-fi novel Snow Crash, the term refers to a convergence of physical, augmented, and virtual reality in a shared online space. More so, the company's name change reflects its growing ambitions beyond social media as it broadens its reach into areas like virtual reality (VR). The software giant already uses holograms and is developing mixed and extended reality (XR) applications with its Microsoft Mesh platform, which combines the real world with augmented reality and virtual reality. After all, the metaverse is becoming our inevitable alternative to reality. Samsung is reportedly delaying its upcoming "Extended Reality" (XR) headset due to Apple's recent unveiling of its Apple Vision Pro last June. For those unfamiliar, XR is an umbrella term that encompasses both virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). Lenovo has just announced their own line of Virtual Reality device called Explorer at IFA 2017 in Berlin The Lenovo Explorer is an ergonomic virtual headset that weighs 380 grams. AAA contents with mixed reality on Windows 10 such as sight-seeing, ski-ing on slopes, swimming with dolphins and playing XBOX games.
