The Executive Director of the ICT Office of the Department of Science and Technology, Louis Napoleon Casambre said yesterday that around 93% of the country may have access to free Wi-Fi services by the end of the year. The daily data usage is set to 50MB to manage the estimated 117,000 internet users who will access the free WiFi service across the country. Through its Region 12 office, the DICT deployed Starlink kits, charging stations, and free internet services under the Government Emergency Communications System (GECS) and Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP). Free WiFi is now available in key locations, including evacuation centers, disaster response offices, and municipal facilities. Meanwhile, PLDT and Smart supplied connectivity support, free WiFi, charging stations, and free calls to assist responders and affected residents. In a recent post by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), there will now be free 24/7 internet access for all traversing the Pasig River via ferry. On top of that, there will also be free internet on the ferries themselves - ensuring users are never disconnected along the route. This is a joint effort of the DICT, MMDA, and Pasig LGU under the Free Public Internet Access Program (FPIAP).
