Globe announced that it was able to block a record high 2.72 billion scam and spam messages in 2022, more than double the 2021 total of 1.15 billion. Globe says that the achievement was a reflection of its stepped-up campaign against malicious SMS. Globe says that blocking spam and scam messages continues to be a crucial component of its cybersecurity strategy, adding that it has managed to spare customers from dangerous SMS before the enforcement of the SIM Registration Act. We will continue to invest in cybersecurity systems and work tirelessly to provide them with a safe and enjoyable online experience as we also take part in the full implementation of the SIM Registration Act," said Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Officer. Globe has spent about $20 million to step up its spam and scam SMS detection and blocking system. Globe has partnered with government agencies to strengthen efforts against mobile-based scams, introducing new tools designed to detect illegal signal activity across the country. In collaboration with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), and the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Globe has donated IMSI catcher detectors to help authorities identify and track unauthorized mobile network activity.
