Globe has recently launched the GoPay service - the first QR payments via smartphone in the Philippines for cashless transactions. GoPay is the newest feature within the GCash application which allows customers to pay using their GCash account by simply scanning QR codes displayed by establishments or stores. Globe's goal for making the GoPay service is to have a "cashless ecosystem" and make GCash payments as the new convention for mobile money transactions. To use the GoPay service, the user must download the latest GCash application then register for an account. GoPay will be out in the next few weeks at select partner stores. The service's introduction is in line with the thrust of Ant Financial, the parent company of Alipay and strategic partner of Mynt, to upgrade payment services and accelerate financial inclusion in the Philippines. This means nearly seven in 10 mobile users are still dependent on legacy 3G services ahead of the government-mandated shutdown of 3G networks by the end of 2026. This is why regulators and industry watchers are starting to push for metrics that emphasize quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE), not just peak speed.
