IDC has released their Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker for Q2 2018, showing the top smartphone vendors in the market. Samsung remained the leader in the worldwide smartphone market with 71.5 million shipments or 20.9% market share for Q2 2018. According to Samsung, the slowdown is due to both intensified competition at the high end and an overall sluggish smartphone market. The much awaited Omnia i900 from Samsung (see specs here) was released in the Philippines yesterday. While everybody is getting frustrated with the supposed Globe iPhone 3G pricing, the Samsung Omnia will definitely be a formidable alternative to the former. The rumored new Samsung i8510 that tows in an 8-megapixel camera and a 16GB internal storage becomes official. This new Samsung i8510 phone will be named Innovate or Innov8. I reckon that the Samsung i8510 is positioned against the Nokia N95 while the Omnia is targetted as an iPhone alternative.
