These companies which all under “Private Electronic System Providers” must register with the government's database in order to operate in the country. The requirement which is part of a bigger law in Indonesia allows the government to obtain data about specific users, as well as coerce companies into removing content that disturbs public order or is considered illegal. This means nearly seven in 10 mobile users are still dependent on legacy 3G services ahead of the government-mandated shutdown of 3G networks by the end of 2026.
