The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have launched the Central Public Utility Vehicle Monitoring System (CPUVMS), a modern system that can monitor PUV trips in real-time using Global Positioning System (GPS). LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra says that under the CPUVMs, the agencies can also check the speed, estimated time of arrival (ETA), as well as the number of PUVs traversing a specific route at any given time, which can help commuters plan their trips. The CPUVMS is currently being used at Phase 1 of the Service Contracting Program where the Central PUV Monitoring Station is monitoring Public Utility Buses (PUB) traversing the EDSA Carousel. Once fully operational, the CPUVMS will be implemented for Phase 2 for the City Public Utility Bus (PUB), Phase 3 for Provincial PUBs, and Phase 4 for the public vehicles of the Regional Franchising and Regulatory Office (RFRO). The launch of the CPUVMS is in accordance with the DOTr Department Order 2017-11 or Omnibus Franchising Guidelines as well as the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) of the government.
