The Redmond-based company has officially announced its own wearable device called the Microsoft Band which features a 1.4-inch touch screen display, water and splash resistant body, and a slew of sensors to keep track of your activities. The Microsoft Band aims to be your fitness companion by sporting a number of sensors like an optical heart rate sensor, GPS, ambient light sensor, skin temperature sensor, and UV sensor to name a few. It's a cloud-based service that provides actionable insights based on the data collected from the Microsoft Band and fitness apps you use with it. The Microsoft Band has a price tag of $199 and works with Windows Phone, iPhone, and Android. You see, Microsoft made deals with netbook manufacturers by offering heavily-discounted price for Windows XP Home. That deal prevented Microsoft from selling Windows Vista and the premium price that goes along with it. In the end, Microsoft could have sold tens of millions of XP licenses for less than half the usual price.
