Microsoft is reducing the number of Copilot AI integrations in Windows 11, signaling a shift toward a more focused approach to AI features. The company said it will remove or limit Copilot entry points in several apps, including Photos, Widgets, Notepad, and the Snipping Tool. According to Windows chief Pavan Davuluri, Microsoft is aiming to integrate AI “where it’s most meaningful,” rather than expanding it across every part of the system. This is not the first adjustment to Microsoft’s AI strategy. Earlier plans to expand Copilot deeper into system-level features were reportedly scaled back, while the rollout of AI-powered tools like Recall faced delays due to security concerns. The Copilot rollback comes alongside other updates to Windows 11, including the return of the movable taskbar, improvements to File Explorer performance, better control over system updates, and enhancements to widgets. Microsoft said these changes are part of ongoing efforts to address user feedback and improve performance, reliability, and usability across the operating system.
