In an early access provided to us by OpenSignal, the latest report (February 2017) on global mobile internet speeds placed the Philippines at 3.33Mbps. This represents a little over 6% improvement in average mobile internet speeds for the country. OpenSignal defines the "overall speed as the average mobile data connection a user experiences based on both the speeds and availability of a country’s 3G and 4G networks". Not long ago, the Philippines have always been reported as among having the slowest internet in the Sount-East Asian region. While our national broadband average is still nowhere near that of Singapore or Hong Kong, broadband and mobile internet speeds have significantly improved in the last few years. Why stability matters more than Mbps The pivot from speed to stability is rooted in how Filipinos actually use the internet. Microsoft has quietly introduced a new internet speed test feature in Windows 11, giving users a quicker way to check their connection directly from the taskbar. Beyond measuring internet speed, the page also includes additional tools such as a stopwatch, timer, typing test, and QR code generator, turning it into a lightweight utility hub.
