Problem is, Intel and netbook manufacturers have set the standard resolution of netbooks to just 1024x600 pixels. Microsoft has outlined 3 major reasons why they had to set the minimum resolution of Windows 8 to 1024x768 {see their blog post here}. They argue that only 1.2% of Windows 7 users have a screen resolution below 1024x768. The other 98.8% of Win7 devices (tablets, laptops and desktop computers) fit perfectly well with the minimum resolution. This leaves netbook owners no option to upgrade to Windows 8. Either manufacturers are stuck with Windows 7 for the rest of the netbook's lifecycle or Intel will agree to increase the standards it has set for netbooks.
