Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) With OIS or Optical Image Stabilization, it's a mechanical-based solution that uses the phone's gyroscope and tiny motors to shift the camera's lens or sensor. This also makes OIS a more suited stabilization technology for taking photos. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) While OIS uses special hardware, EIS or Electronic Image Stabilization uses software and the chipset's computing power to produce steady shots. Unlike OIS, the stabilization in EIS happens when the image hits the sensor. OIS + EIS Smartphone camera manufacturers use both OIS and EIS in some of their camera modules to provide the best possible stabilization on a smartphone. Instead of simply cutting power, the camera would guide the gimbal into a safe resting position using sensors and image detection before turning off.
