The Federal Court of Australia has ordered Samsung Electronics Australia Pty Ltd (Samsung Australia) to pay AUD 14 million (about USD 9.6 million) in penalties after the company admitted misleading consumers on water resistance claims of about 3.1 million Samsung smartphones sold in the region. Water resistant claims included the following Samsung Galaxy phones: S7, S7 Edge, A5 (2017), A7 (2017), S8, S8 Plus and Note 8. The ACCC labeled these ads implying water resistance as misleading.
