Smart has recently announced the commercial deployment of its 5G service in the Philippines in select areas in Metro Manila. According to a report from GMA News, the initial 5G deployment will be available to Smart Signature, Infinity, and other Smart Postpaid subscribers using Smart-certified smartphones with 5G-activated SIM cards who are located in the key areas of Metro Manila. Smart will also launch Smart-certified 5G smartphones from Huawei, Samsung, realme, and Vivo under Smart Signature postpaid plans in select Smart Stores. "The launch of Smart's 5G service enables the Philippines to level up and join the ranks of countries utilizing the next generation of mobile technology," said PLDT chief revenue officer and Smart president and chief executive officer Alfredo Panlilio.
