Sony Corporation has established a new organization, Sony AI, to advance fundamental research and development of artificial intelligence. With a mission to "unleash human imagination and creativity with AI," Sony believes that AI could help resolve global issues being faced today. Sony AI will combine already present research and development with its Imaging & Sensing solutions, Robotics and Entertainment assets to transform existing business domains, as well as create new ones. Aside from flagship and research projects, Sony is also hoping to develop AI ethics. Recognizing the need for AI researchers and engineers, Sony AI will open offices in Japan, Europe, and the United States. Sony's president and CEO of Sony Computer Science Laboratories inc Hiroaki Kitano will head Sony AI globally, alongside Peter Stone, who will lead the American site.
