Starlink keeps on pushing for lower cost of acquisition for their satellite service. Last February, they offered 33% off on their satellite dish (Php18,500 from Php28,000) and this month they’ve now started offering refurbished kits at 50% of the original price (Php14,000 from Php28,000). The refurbished satellite kits are merely returned units for any number of reasons, but they’re expected to be fully functioning or working with the same warranty coverage as the regular kits. Starlink satellite services come with a starting monthly service fee of Php2,700. Starlink has sent out emails to interested users in the Philippines allowing them to reserve and put down a deposit for future services. This has put Starlink as an official internet service provider in the Philippines, albeit it will be delivered in 2022. Earlier, Converge ICT has been reported to be in talks with Starlink for a partnership to offer satellite broadband. As it turns out, Starlink can directly offer their service in the Philippines without a local partnership and this email detailing a reservation is merely the first step.
