Apple has announced that longtime executive John Ternus will become its next chief executive officer, replacing Tim Cook after more than a decade at the helm. Ternus, currently Apple’s head of hardware engineering, will officially take over as CEO on September 1, while Cook transitions to the role of executive chairman. Cook has led Apple since 2011, following the resignation of co-founder Steve Jobs.
