Originally launched back in July 2022 and was initially available in Greece and Germany, Viber Pay aims to provide their users with a simple and secure way to transfer funds to one another within Viber. Viber Pay enables users to make payments inside the very chat with whomever they are looking to pay, enjoying the privacy and security for which Viber is renowned. Viber has been competing with the likes of WeChat which is already a super app (and a thriving WeChat Pay service) or Grab which has seen very little success in the Philippines with Grab Pay. With bigger e-wallets in the Philippines like Maya and GCash, Viber Pay may prove to be a potential alternative, especially in recent months, where transfer and cash-in fees have been introduced or increased significantly. BDO Unibank has removed transfer fees for InstaPay and PESONet transactions made through the BDO Online and BDO Pay apps. UnionBank has removed transaction fees for person-to-person fund transfers made through InstaPay, with the new policy taking effect today, July 7, 2026.
