Viber Pay is coming to the Philippines

Last April 2, Rakuten ran a poll in their Viber Community that Viber Pay is coming to the Philippines soon. They asked “Which early signup benefit would most entice you to join Viber Pay?”

Originally launched back in July 2022 and was initially available in Greece and Germany, Viber Pay aims to provide their users with a simple and secure way to transfer funds to one another within Viber.

Viber Pay enables users to make payments inside the very chat with whomever they are looking to pay, enjoying the privacy and security for which Viber is renowned. All payments will require a personal code or biometric identification, and payment confirmations are encrypted by default.

Viber has been competing with the likes of WeChat which is already a super app (and a thriving WeChat Pay service) or Grab which has seen very little success in the Philippines with Grab Pay.

With bigger e-wallets in the Philippines like Maya and GCash, Viber Pay may prove to be a potential alternative, especially in recent months, where transfer and cash-in fees have been introduced or increased significantly.
