Xiaomi Corporation has recently published its very first intellectual property (IP) white paper, showcasing the 29,000 patents it has obtained globally. In particular, the company stated that it has accumulated 700 patents in smartphone charging technology, 1,000 patents for imaging technology, and 1,200 AI-related patents, to name a few of the patent achievements mentioned in its inaugural white paper. According to Xiaomi, its achievement in global patents spans over 60 countries and regions worldwide, and it has invested in research and development in 12 technological fields, such as 5G technology, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Xiaomi has submitted a patent showcasing sketches of a new foldable smartphone with a clamshell form factor and rotating cameras. Xiaomi's patented device has a similar design to Samsung's Galaxy Z and the 2019 Moto Razr, folding horizontally into a square-shaped smartphone. There's also no physical fingerprint reader, which means Xiaomi might employ an in-display scanner, and by extension, an OLED display. There's no telling whether Xiaomi will release this new device, but we're always excited to see manufacturers experimenting and innovating new designs.
