Hot off the heels of being named as the 4th biggest smartphone manufacturer, ZTE has recently announced four new additions to their smartphone lineup in Russia. The company’s new offerings include 3 dual-SIM Android smartphones. Although these phones have just been recently announced, it’s said some of these (V790 and V887) are already available locally through MemoXpress’ online shop. At that price, ZTE’s going to have a tough time competing against the key players in the local entry-level market such as Cherry Mobile and Lenovo. Was actually surprised to read the recent IDC report which puts China's ZTE (remember the ZTE-NBN deal?) as the world's 4th largest handset maker for 2010, even surpassing Apple which was bumped down to 5th. ZTE came in at 4th with 16.8 million handsets (4.2% share) where it pushed down Apple to 5th with 4.0% share (16.2 million). ZTE makes handsets for 3rd parties like Verizon in the US. The company says the improved speeds will help future smartphones and other devices run on-device AI applications more efficiently with faster response times and lower latency.
