The country’s top telcos, Globe Telecom and Smart Communications, recently passed NTC’s Quality of Service (Qos) Benchmarking Tests for the second quarter of this year.
According to NTC’s results, Globe improved to 1.46% from 2.6% (lower is better) while Smart fell back a bit at 1.26% from 0.87%. “Based on the grade of service, both parties passed the less than or equal to four percent (4%) performance standard of the Commission, meaning no more than four blocked calls is allowed for every 100 call attempts,” said NTC. In this case, Smart still performed better than Globe even with the slight deterioration in its services.
Meanwhile, Globe asked for a reiew of the results and has already registered their concerns with the commission. “The network performance measurement equipment of Globe generates network quality KPIs and more extensive drive tests done by Globe, including the NTC drive test routes, showed a major difference from the latest NTC test results. This may indicate a need to jointly review the latest NTC results in the interest of transparency,” said Cris Crisostomo, Globe Head of Service Quality, Network Technical Group.
NTC also tested for dropped call rates, Average Receive Signal Level, Average Signal Quality, and Call Set Up Time which Globe and Smart also passed. All tests were conducted using postpaid Globe and Smart SIM cards subscribing to regular services. The commission didn’t use Sun, Talk and Text, and Touch Mobile SIMs since these SIMs are using the networks of either Globe or Smart.

NTC should also check Sun Cellular as it is not totally using Smart backbone! Some calls especially on high tower buildings that use cellphone repeaters have a high rate of drop calls!

thats surprising
samuel witwicky says:
This is all just a waste of time. How about they test Globe’s mobile internet and maybe they’ll find out about the ridiculous 18MB download limit per session for prepaid users. My photo uploads keep getting cut off because of that.

another chink to yugatech’s reputation. c’mon, can you not make it more obvious you are a Globe-sponsored tech site? you always find a way to publish articles in favor of or make Globe look good by twisting facts. most recent articles point to Globe falling behind even further to Smart when it comes to QoS. when it comes to information that is of concern to users who are frequent readers of this site, at least be objective. but then again, monies, sponsorships, or device exclusives are irresistible so what can a poor reader like me do? tsk… tsk… tsk…

Globe subscriber here. All I can say is that Globe’s signal has really DETERIORATED throughout the year. Even inside an Ayala mall its difficult to make calls and texts.
NTC results are correct based on my experience with Globe. Globe is just making a fuss about it because the results show Smart’s network is superior.
if only Smart could provide better customer service…

Good to know that Smart and Globe are providing great service to their customers.

for me… nsa area pa rin yan…

Smart definitely better than Globe, mapa voice or data.
Voice, I have both postpaid line. Cos of my job I travel anywhere in Philippines and Smart indeed has much better and wide range of Network.
Data, I have Smart data plan and my wife has Globe data plan and we both using LTE Phone(GS4). My wife is so jealous to me, she never experience the 4G/LTE experience since she subscribe to post paid plan. Parang naglagay lang ng ilang LTE tapos sinabi ng Globe they have LTE na agad.
Mel says:
To be precise, Sun still runs it’s own network in areas that had Sun coverage prior to Smart’s buyout. For example, here in Metro Manila I cannot connect to Smart’s network but in provincial/rural areas I can roam on Smart’s network when Sun’s coverage is not available.
Dudong Baho says:
For me, I would not care too much sa maliit na difference ng results compared to the other network. What’s important is they at least pass the test and provide me the service I deserve…
Which I hardly experienced with Smart Postpaid na tatawag ka lang sa hotline for bill adjustment eh 3 hours kang on hold. I switched to Globe postpaid last year and I’m enjoying the ease of having a postpaid line. Hopefully the experience stays the same (wag sana matulad sa mga may problem sa bill because of their upgrade hehe)
dakilangduca says:
So sana may test din NTC for these network’s customer service, coz for sure Globe will fail unsurprisingly.
