PLDT, Smart fires up 3 more 700MHz LTE cell sites in PH

Listen to article

After Globe went up and tested the first 700MHz LTE cell site in Quezon City yesterday, PLDT/Smart went on overtime to put up their own cell sites that support the newly acquired 700MHz frequency.

Updates were all tweeted by no other than MVP himself.

Their first cell site is stationed somewhere in Tanay, Rizal while the 2nd one is in Davao City at Ecoland, Matina. The 3rd one was just activated moments ago in Manggahan Pasig.

Initial speed tests showed over 100Mbps on the that frequency.

MVP also added that a total of around 200 cell sites will be activated to support the 700MHz by end of this year.

If you have a smartphone that supports the 700MHz band (check device list here), you should be able to feel this speed bumps in those areas.

Davao city is the fourth largest city with 1.4M people. It’s more of business decision rather than papogi.

Let’s just say that 100Mbps rate can be sustained using the new LTE band. Smart has a 1000MB daily bandwidth cap. I’ll use up my DAILY data allowance in just a little over three MINUTES, which doesn’t make any sense.

It would be better if Smart would increase the cap (because unlimited data is not coming back ever). NTC is nothing but a slave of the telecom companies. NTC has the power by law, to set conditions and regulate the sale of the 700MHz band but as usual, they did nothing (facepalm).

Manually try setting Band 28 or 12 using *#2263# on Samsung s6 then choose automatic but preferred 12 or 28. Check speedtest.net somehow it will choose pasig as server. then you’ll know it’s working.
