IDC Asia Pacific has just released the top smartphone vendors in South East Asia for the entire fiscal year of 2015. On top of the ranking is Samsung as expected but the second spot came in as a big surprise.
Asus was at #4 in 2014 with 3.9 million (4.7%) shipments in SEA. That number jumped to 8.4 million in 2015, putting it a rank #2 with 8.3% market share. The Taiwanese company overtook Apple which used to be int 2nd spot as well a Chinese vendor, OPPO, which dropped from 3rd to 4th.

Asus has been very aggressive in releasing new variations of their Zenfone line. Asus was targeting 25 to 30 million shipments of their Zenfone brand in 2015. Though there is still no verification if that target has been achieved, the company claimed they sold over 8 million units by the end of June 2015 and was on its way to hitting 21 million by the end of the year.
