Fortnite returns to Google Play Store worldwide

Listen to article

Fortnite is officially returning to the Google Play Store globally on March 19, following a long-running dispute between Epic Games and Google.

The comeback coincides with the launch of the game’s next season, marking the first time in years that Android users worldwide can download Fortnite directly from the Play Store again.

Fortnite was originally removed in 2020 after Epic bypassed Google’s in-app payment system to avoid the platform’s standard commission. The move triggered a legal battle not just with Google, but also with Apple, which pulled the game from the App Store under similar circumstances.

After years of disputes, Epic and Google reached a settlement in late 2025. As part of broader changes, Google has since reduced its Play Store commission fees to around 10–20%, down from the previous 30% cut; one of the core issues behind the conflict.

Fortnite had already returned to the Play Store in the US late last year, but this marks its full global rollout on Android devices.

The game’s return also aligns with several updates, including a price adjustment for V-Bucks and plans to make Fortnite’s “Save the World” mode free-to-play starting April.

For players, the biggest impact is straightforward: no more sideloading or workarounds, Fortnite is back where most Android users expect it to be.
