Initially anticipated to launch later this year in the U.S. in partnership with T-Mobile, SpaceX has adjusted its timeline, with the new website indicating a target launch date for satellite-based text messaging in the coming year.
The ambitious roadmap further outlines plans to support voice and text in 2025, extending its capabilities to include cellular connectivity for IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
SpaceX’s Starlink service enters a competitive landscape, challenging existing players such as Apple’s satellite-based Emergency SOS feature for iPhones and AST Space Mobile, which is also eyeing the delivery of a cellular satellite service to unmodified smartphones in the next year.
