0:00Last year, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi
0:01[music] 17 series in China, introducing
0:04three models, the V Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro,
0:07and 17 Pro [music] Max. And if you’re
0:09wondering, wait, what happened to the 16
0:11series? Yep, they [music] skip it
0:13entirely and jump straight to 17. Now,
0:16the Xiaomi 17 series has finally landed
0:18on our shores, and today [music] we’re
0:20taking a closer look at the standard
0:21Xiaomi 17. I’ll be sharing my hands-on
0:23experience and whether this phone
0:25actually lives up to the hype. I’m your
0:26host, Earl, and let’s get into it.
0:28editor. Cue in that intro. [music]
0:37First off, let’s talk about its design
0:39and build. The first thing I notice is
0:40how compact the Xiaomi 17 is. For its
0:43size, the phone feels very handy and
0:45sleek. [music] It weighs 191 g and
0:47measures at 8.6 mm thickness, making it
0:49easy to grip and providing good
0:51ergonomics. I’ve had this one for a
0:53while now, and it made me appreciate how
0:55nice it is to have a phone this small
0:56and compact. Even though if you know me,
0:58I usually prefer bigger ones.
1:01Checking out the cameras at the rear,
1:03each lens is now protruding, housed in a
1:05squareish module, whereas its
1:07predecessor accentuates a flush camera
1:09island. The unit we have here is the
1:10green colorway, and it feels solidly
1:12built, featuring an aluminum frame
1:14paired with a matte finished glass rear
1:16panel that adds both durability and a
1:18level of premium in hand. And of course,
1:20there’s the Xiaomi logo right here. The
1:22phone is IP68 rated, making it resistant
1:25to water submersion and dust ingress.
1:26And for extra peace of mind, it comes
1:28with a hard case included in the box. As
1:30for the display panel, it’s protected by
1:32dragon crystal glass, providing added
1:34resistance against scratches and minor
1:36drops from everyday use. For buttons and
1:38ports, it has the usual placements. Both
1:40the volume and power button are seated
1:42on the right, while the other side is
1:43left clean and neat. At the bottom,
1:45you’ll see the USBC port, SIM tray, and
1:47the speaker grill. Up top, it’s left
1:49neat and clean as well. Overall, the
1:51Xiaomi 17 slim profile is one of its
1:53notable design traits. Given its size,
1:55the device remain compact and
1:57comfortable to hold with ergonomics that
1:58should suit users who prefer relatively
2:00smaller phones. On the front, the Xiaomi
2:0217 comes with a 6.3 in LTPO AMOLED
2:05display supporting a 120 Hz refresh
2:07rate. Again, its compact dimensions make
2:10one-handed use and onscreen navigation
2:12easy. When I’m reading articles and
2:14posts online, I love how smooth and
2:16responsive the screen is. The images and
2:18text are very sharp and crisp,
2:19appreciating it more than I expected.
2:21Also, the bezels here are satisfyingly
2:23thin, measuring 1.18 mm. With a peak
2:26brightness of 3,500 nits, the Xiaomi 17
2:29is easy to see even under direct
2:31sunlight. From watching films and shows
2:33to music listening, the Xiaomi 17
2:35[music] nails the multimedia experience.
2:36The colors are vibrant and blacks are
2:38deep, as expected of an LTPO AMOLED
2:40[music] panel. The speakers deliver a
2:42balanced sound with tight, punchy bass,
2:44clear and forward mids, and crisp
2:46natural highs. Whether it’s movies,
2:48music, or gaming, the audio keeps
2:50everything immersive and enjoyable. For
2:52biometric security, the Xiaomi 17
2:54handles both facial recognition and
2:55fingerprint [music] scanning with ease.
2:57Both are fast and accurate. Unlike some
2:59devices that lag for a moment, this one
3:01unlocks instantly. That’s mostly because
3:04this one’s using an ultrasonic indisplay
3:06fingerprint sensor. It’s also well
3:08placed comfortably within reach of your
3:09thumb for comfortable one-handed use.
3:11Now, in the camera department, this is
3:13where the Xiaomi 17 really impresses.
3:15[music] For optics, the Xiaomi 17
3:17carries a triple rear setup of 50
3:19megapixel Leica cameras for its main
3:21ultrawide and telephoto lenses. What’s
3:23also new on this model is that the
3:25selfie shooter is now 50 megapixel
3:27sensor as well. The only thing I can say
3:29in this segment is that the cameras are
3:31really great from just capturing
3:33sceneries, portraits, night
3:34photographies, macro, selfies, and
3:37insane zooming capabilities. Everything
3:39looks impressive. In regular photo mode,
3:42the Xiaomi 17 captures this subject so
3:44well. Image output is very detailed. The
3:46colors are well balanced and details are
3:48well preserved. If you take a look at
3:50our pictures, every shot is clean.
3:54The images are leaning towards warmer
3:56tones. So, expect a good amount of
3:57vibrancy in every image you take. You
3:59can shoot from 0.7 up to five time zoom
4:02with detail and great output. And with
4:04its insane zooming capability, you can
4:06also zoom in up to 60 [music] times
4:07maximum.
4:11I tested it. I’ll be capturing the moon.
4:13And from that kind of distance, it
4:14rendered the image nicely. [music] Night
4:16mode is impressive as well. Whereas
4:18shooting in portrait modes at night is
4:20reliable. Ultra wide and macro shots are
4:22insane. Thanks to the Leica Samlock
4:24system, the camera delivers exceptional
4:26image quality with remarkable clarity
4:28and depth. Selfie also get a major
4:30upgrade. The new 50 megapixel lens
4:32captures more detailed, crisp, and
4:34natural looking photos. And with zoom
4:36options ranging from 0.8 8 to one time
4:39zoom. Users have greater flexibility to
4:41frame their shots exactly the way they
4:42want. As for video capture, the rear
4:44camera can shoot up to 8K at 30 frames
4:47per second. Optical image stabilization
4:49or OIS keeps shot steady even when
4:51steady mode is off. When you turn on
4:53shoot steady mode, the rear camera
4:55records up to 2.8K at 30 frames per
4:57second for extra stability, which is
4:59great for [music] capturing moving
5:00subjects. Sup peeps. Early Fugate Tech.
5:03Right now, we’re using the front-facing
5:04camera and shooting at 4K 60 frames per
5:07second. So, tell us your thoughts about
5:08camera capability of this phone. So,
5:10yeah, this is a sample video and this is
5:13my raw audio.
5:15[music]
5:21[music]
5:30>> [music]
6:06>> The camera performance here on the
6:08Xiaomi 17 is highly promising and
6:10reliable, producing high-end outcomes
6:12for a phone like this. Moving over to
6:14its internals, the Xiaomi 17 has the
6:16latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Paired
6:18with 16 gig of RAM and 512 gig of
6:20storage. Performance-wise, it’s top
6:23tier. Even as the base model, it packs
6:25Qualcomm’s fastest chipset, handling
6:26multitasking, heavy apps, and demanding
6:29games smoothly. Transitioning from
6:30several windows and apps feel so
6:32responsive and with virtually no delays.
6:35This is perfect for managing daily
6:36tasks, giving users productivity a
6:38boost. From testing out games like
6:40Mobile Legends set at ultra graphics
6:41mode to Genshin Impact’s highest mode,
6:44the phone did a great job at handling
6:45both games with ease. It’s so fun to
6:47play with this phone as it can handle
6:49everything you throw at it smoothly. My
6:51only gripe on this one is that the phone
6:53tends to heat up after several game
6:55plays, but that’s to be expected
6:57considering I’m playing all these games
6:58in the highest graphical and frame rate
7:00settings possible. If you’re interested
7:02in the numbers, flashing them on your
7:04screen now.
7:17Now, onto the software side of things.
7:19The Xiaomi 17 ships with Hyper OS3 which
7:22uses Android 16. The system delivers
7:24smooth polish animation and seamless
7:26transitions making navigation feel fast
7:28and responsive from gaming and media
7:30playback to multitasking between apps.
7:32With Hyper OS we get plenty of
7:33customization options ranging from
7:35themes, lock screens, widgets, and
7:38always on display options. The Xiaomi 17
7:40handles task smoothly with fast file
7:42transfers, easy connections to other
7:44Xiaomi devices, and efficient background
7:46app management. And again, it also
7:48includes a suite of AI tools they call
7:50Xiaomi HyperAI, which offers tools like
7:53AI writing, AI image editing in the
7:55gallery, and Gemini with circle to
7:57search, among others. Another exciting
7:59upgrade to talk about is the battery.
8:01The Xiaomi 17 jumped from the 5,240 mAh
8:04pack on the Xiaomi 15 to a massive 7,000
8:07mAh battery. With its newer battery, the
8:09phone lasted for 2 days straight [music]
8:11before it was fully drained, which says
8:13a lot already. This upgrade is what I
8:15like the most, especially if you’re
8:17someone like me who uses their phone
8:1824/7. The battery life plays a huge role
8:21in my productivity invert. To prove just
8:23how long this one lasts on a single
8:24charge, here’s our result in the PC Mark
8:27battery life test. If it ever drains, I
8:29can just [music] plug it with its 100 W
8:31charger that charges the phone in less
8:33than an hour. [music] It also supports
8:3550 watts wireless charging, 22.5 watts
8:37reverse charging, and works conveniently
8:39for other accessories. Sadly, this one
8:41doesn’t have any bypass charging
8:43support. Connectivity-wise, the Xiaomi
8:4517 has support for 5G, LTE, NFC, and
8:48comes already with e SIM support. So,
8:51for those who travel frequently, you can
8:52use it without removing your own SIM
8:54whenever you’re traveling, adding points
8:56for convenience. Local pricing for the
8:58Xiaomi 17 series hasn’t been announced
9:00yet. But to give you an idea, the
9:02previous Xiaomi 15 retailed for 45,999
9:05pesos. As I mentioned earlier, the 17
9:08series first launched in China for 4,499
9:11Chinese. converted directly, that’s
9:13about 37,815
9:15pesos. If it ended up around that price
9:17locally, it would be a great deal. But
9:19let’s be real, it’s probably going to be
9:21more expensive, especially with RAM
9:23prices going up lately. So, there’s
9:25that. Anyways, moving over to our
9:27verdict. All in all, the Xiaomi 7 proves
9:29that a compact phone can still deliver a
9:31full flagship experience. From its sleek
9:34and durable build to that gorgeous 6.3
9:36in LTPO AMOLED display, everything feels
9:38premium and well thought out. The Leica
9:40cameras are easily one of its strongest
9:42suits, producing detailed, vibrant, and
9:44reliable shots in almost any scenario,
9:46whether it’s daytime, nighttime,
9:48portraits, or even extreme zoom.
9:49Performance is also top tier thanks to
9:51the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 backed
9:53[music] by 16 gig of RAM and massive
9:55storage. Daily task, heavy gaming, and
9:57multitasking all run smoothly. Battery
10:00life is another major win. That 7,000
10:02mAh capacity is insane for a phone this
10:04size, easily lasting up to 2 days with
10:06fast charging to max. In a world where
10:08bigger is often better, the Xiaomi 17
10:10proves that compact can still pack a
10:11serious punch, delivering flagship level
10:14performance, stunning cameras, and
10:16unbeatable battery life in a sleek,
10:17pocket-friendly design. And there you
10:20have it. What do you think of the newest
10:22Xiaomi 17? Would you purchase it anytime
10:24soon? We’d love to hear your thoughts
