Xiaomi Smart Band 7 Hands-on

Xiaomi has globally launched its latest fitness band, the Xiaomi Smart Band 7, and included in that market is the Philippines. It features a 1.62-inch AMOLED screen and a 14-day battery life. Read our hands-on below.

The Xiaomi Smart Band 7 succeeds the Smart Band 6 released last year. At first glance, the Band 7 may not look much different from the Band 6, but if you have seen or used the latter, you will notice that the former has a larger screen and curvier glass.

While the Band 6 has a 1.56-inch 152 x 486 screen, the Band 7 has a 1.62-inch screen with 192 x 490 resolution. The screen is AMOLED, so we’re looking at a screen with deep blacks and punchy colors.

Viewing angles are good, while the 500 nits brightness, so outdoor legibility is good as well. It also has a monotone always-on mode if you want the time to be always visible.

Mounted on top of the display is tempered glass with an anti-fingerprint coating. I don’t know about the latter, but the glass still attracts fingerprints.

Like the previous Xiaomi Smart Bands, the sensors and the charging port are placed underneath. It’s still encased in plastic but of high quality. It also features 5ATM water resistance, so you can take it with you in the shower or for a swim.

The Band 7 is still housed in a TPU strap with aluminium alloy buckle. You can easily take it off the strap and put it in a new one. The strap has a powdery smooth texture and feels comfortable on the wrist. At 13.5 g, it’s very light as well so you can wear it and forget.

To set up the watch, you’ll need the Mi Fitness app and a Xiaomi account. Once logged in, you can start adding and pairing the device to the app via Bluetooth 5.2. From here, you can download watch faces, allow permissions, and tinker with features, but I suggest updating the firmware first if an update is available.

Speaking of features, the Xiaomi Smart Band 7 supports 110+ fitness modes and 5 auto-detection modes (outdoor running, walking, treadmill, rowing machine, elliptical). It also has heart rate monitoring, VO2 max, SpO2 tracking, sleep tracking, sleep breathing quality tracking, female health-tracking, stress monitoring with breathing exercises, and PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence).

So far, the experience is good. The screen is responsive, our heart rate and movements are monitored, and it syncs quickly with the app so we can see our activities on the dashboard. Battery life is good as well, the 180mAh can last up to 14 days while charging takes about 2 hours.

The Xiaomi Smart Band 7 is a good entry point for users who are looking for a fitness band with a good display and lots of features at an affordable price.

It will be available on June 27 for PHP 2,399USD 41INR 3,466EUR 39CNY 298 but will be offered with an Early Bird Price of PHP 1,999USD 34INR 2,888EUR 32CNY 248 from June 27 to 28, 2022.
